I work for a major U.S. airline and always knew I wanted to elope. When we tied the knot back in 2010—long before elopements were trendy—I created a wedding week filled with adventure, beauty, and zero stress. Our Theme: “Airmail” Love Letters

Because my fiancé worked as a mailman and I was an international flight attendant, our wedding theme was “airmail.” I designed our whole day around that nostalgic, travel-loving vibe—exactly the kind of inspiration you’ll want if you’re looking to elope like a flight attendant.

Choosing the Perfect Destination: St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands

When it came to location, we wanted palm trees, ocean breezes, and a backdrop as adventurous as our story. After browsing dozens of destinations, we chose St. Croix because it was the perfect middle ground—not too crowded, not too sleepy. It felt untouched, raw, and full of beauty.

Booking nonstop flights through American Airlines, we set our date for June 13 and planned a full wedding week of excursions, relaxation, and celebration. As someone who’s visited 50+ countries, picking just one wasn’t easy—but if you want to elope like a flight attendant, choosing a place you’ve never been adds a little extra magic.

To stay on theme, I worked with a designer on Etsy to create vintage-inspired passport invitations—complete with a personalized travel itinerary inside. (Yes, I’m giving you permission to copy my itinerary idea for your own wedding!)

For my bouquet, I ordered handmade sola wood flowers from a farm in Northern California. Lightweight, durable, and travel-friendly—another essential if you want to elope like a flight attendant without stressing over fresh flowers.

Wedding Day Details: Simple, Stylish, and So “Us”

I found my dress off-the-rack for $40—yes, $40!—during a layover in Salt Lake City. It was a flowy, beach-perfect chiffon gown by Sweetheart Gowns. I went barefoot for the ceremony, wore a chunky pearl necklace, and tucked a sola flower in my hair.

Chris wore breezy linen pants and leather flip-flops we ordered from Island Importer. Laid-back and effortless was the name of the game. If you elope like a flight attendant, comfort and style need to coexist—and they absolutely can.

Our “Reception” on a Catamaran

Instead of a traditional reception, we charted a private catamaran at sunset for about $500. After our ceremony at Carambola Beach Resort, a bus whisked our guests to the dock where we all set sail—swimming, laughing, and cutting our wedding cake in bathing suits.

I highly recommend a catamaran reception. It’s unforgettable, and so much more personal than a banquet hall.

Activities and Adventures: Making Every Day Epic

Throughout the week, we organized optional activities for our guests:

• Snorkeling at Buck Island Reef National Monument

• Bioluminescent kayaking at night

• Off-roading in Jeeps around the island

• Yoga on the beach before the wedding

• Golfing at Carambola Golf Club

• Hiking to Annaly Tide Pools
